Laurent Robert, former France international (9 caps, 1 goal), was invited to talk to Le Parisien about Gonçalo Ramos. He was full of praise for Paris Saint-Germain’s 23-year-old striker after his 1st goal of the season on Tuesday against RB Salzburg (Champions League matchday 6). The 0-3 victory was a welcome boost.
Laurent Robert: “We can see that he’s a generous lad, and that’s a credit to him”.
“Paris plays with wingers and full-backs who go up, and before that they didn’t have any solutions. Ramos makes runs, calls and counter-calls, and knows how to make himself forgotten. He’s very useful in recovering the ball, and he’s always at the heart of the team.
You can tell he’s a generous lad, and that’s a credit to him. He’s the player who’s been missing from Paris’ start to the season. You can see in the organization that they need a boy like him, a fox in the box.”
Indeed, Ramos’s return is very welcome and was eagerly awaited by the staff, the team and the fans. With a goal in the last Champions League match against Salzburg, he should gain in confidence as he gradually gets back into the swing of things.
Away from the pitch for 3 months, he missed 15 matches with Paris Saint-Germain. He now needs to regain his sensations and automatisms, especially for his team-mates who had forgotten for some time what a profile like Ramos could bring.
Of course, PSG have other solutions in their squad. But it’s good to have a “real” 9, especially when he puts in so much effort. Not to mention the fact that he knows how to combine with his team-mates, even if some observers seem to miss the point.
