Ousmane Dembélé, Paris Saint-Germain’s 28-year-old striker, spoke to M6 after the 5-0 victory over Inter Milan (video highlights PSG/Inter Milan) at the Allianz Arena on Saturday in the final of the Champions League 2024-2025.
Dembélé “after so many years of hardship and struggle as they say.”
What’s it like to win the first Champions League in PSG’s history?
It’s exceptional. We’ve won finals, that’s great, but this way it’s even better. It’s even more thrilling. We deserve it, after so many years of hardship and struggle, as they say.
PSG deserve this victory, we’ve made a whole people and a whole city proud. Didier Deschamps is going to find us in a strange state (laughs).
The incredible fervour of the fans?
Yes, they’re exceptional. For the last 15 days, we’ve been seeing the passion around the Final, and they’ve been pushing us all season. It’s nothing but pleasure. They deserve it, they’ve worked so hard.
Dembélé “You either love him or you don’t, but he’s an exceptional coach.”
The fans’ tribute to Luis Enrique’s daughter?
He richly deserves it, he brought his winning mentality to PSG. Whether you like him or not, he’s an exceptional coach.
Has he given you a new dimension? Do you feel liberated in this role?
Yes, in this free role, I try to create space and be a pain for the defenders. I knew I was expected to play, so I couldn’t force my game. I had to play the right way and think of the team before myself.
How did you feel at the final whistle?
There were a lot of tears from the whole team. It was incredible. Ever since I arrived, the fans have been pushing us so hard. Winning PSG’s first Champions League is exceptional. And in this way too.
