Désiré Doué, Paris Saint-Germain’s 19-year-old midfielder/attacker, stopped by the press conference after the 5-0 victory over Inter Milan this Saturday at the Allianz Arena as part of the Champions League 2024-2025 final, for which he was voted player of the match.
Doué “We wrote the history of the club, of European soccer.”
You made history by being involved in 3 goals. What’s your reaction?
I don’t really have the words to describe how I feel, it’s something magical what we’ve done. We’ve made history for the club and for European soccer. I’m very happy with everything we’ve done this season.
How would you explain the masterclass?
I tried to approach the match as usual. We knew it was one of the most eagerly-awaited games for the club. We were sure of our qualities and knew what we had to do. We did it as a team and that’s magnificent.
Doué “We’re going to keep working, remaining humble.”
5-0, that’s a surprise. Your performance was incredible too. Is this team strong enough to win next year too?
We’ve shown great things this season with PSG. We’ve shown that we’re a great team, in every aspect. It’s a big job. We have a lot of young players who can still improve. I’m one of them. We have an incredible coach. We’re going to keep on working, while remaining humble, to keep on winning the biggest trophies.
How are you feeling right now?
I’m on cloud nine, it’s hard to believe that we’ve won the Champions League, that we’re making history. It was a dream when we arrived to win this trophy. We had an incredible collective strength. It’s just magnificent.
Doué “We couldn’t fall asleep, especially not.”
A season of adaptation that ends in apotheosis?
It’s a normal evolution for a young player who has to adapt to his transfer. I took the time I needed. I’ve had a lot of help too. I work alongside great players every day, and I’m making progress every day. There’s discipline and hard work. We’ve won, but there’s still a lot to do. We’ll have to get back to work for other major trophies.
How could you dominate like that for 90 minutes?
We knew we were playing against a great team and that we had to put everything on our side. Above all, we couldn’t let ourselves fall asleep. We had to score as many goals as possible.
Doué “it’s a great team effort.”
A word about your development in Paris, with several positions occupied?
That’s part of our team’s strength, because we have a lot of versatile players. We move around a lot during the match. We’re very happy with the season, but we’re going to keep working. Danger is everywhere in the team, it’s all a collective effort.
