Scherrer Maxwell, a former left-back with major European clubs and notably Paris Saint-Germain (2012-2017), was asked by L’Equipe to give his opinion on the development of current Paris full-back Nuno Mendes (22).
Maxwell “he always plays with a lot of personality.”
“I think Nuno is having a great season. He’s one of the most dominant players in Europe in his position. In terms of speed and projection, he has few equals.
It’s normal that he still has things to work on, bearing in mind that he’s still a young player (22). But his evolution is hyperpositive. What I like about him is that, whatever the context, he always plays with a lot of personality.”
Of course, Nuno Mendes still has things to work on. There’s no such thing as a perfect player, and what’s more, he’s still very young. That’s something we sometimes forget, when we’re already used to seeing him at the highest level. The Portuguese still has time to improve his defensive positioning and some of his attacking choices.
In fact, he has already made good progress since signing for PSG in 2021. And he’s always played with great desire and character. At times, some expected him to struggle against a European powerhouse. But Nuno Mendes never lets himself be impressed, and he’s always ready to respond.
We saw this in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 8 against Liverpool, and we need to confirm it in the return leg on Tuesday.
