This Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain won 1-0 (video summary PSG/Lens) against Lens on Matchday 10 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 at the Parc des Princes. Here are the highlights and lowlights of the victory.
Tops –
The victory
That’s the main thing, even if the most bitter will refuse to see this as a negative point. In that case, the content will be singled out for criticism. Here again, there’s really nothing to criticise. PSG played like socks, but conceded few chances against an outsider. There is one negative point, which we’ll look at in the flops, but PSG are 6 points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
Barcola
We’ll leave aside his finishing, which isn’t good, and focus on the player who makes a difference. Because he’s capable of hurting the opposing defence. The day he makes real progress in front of goal, he’ll be a great player.
Dembélé goalscorer/decisive
He misses a lot, that’s a fact, he’ll never be a great goalscorer. That said, when PSG score, he’s often mentioned, whether it’s an acceleration, a pass or a goal. He’s a formidable player, an irritating one, but one who almost always makes a difference.
Flops –
Efficiency
If we remember the victory, we can’t forget to mention Paris’ efficiency. More than 2.5 XG and just one goal. The Parisian forwards didn’t really come up against Samba, but they made the Lens keeper shine by offering him one-on-ones or shots that weren’t secure enough. You have to know how to put the ball in the net, especially when the team has a chronic ability to create so many important chances.
Ruiz
While Hakimi was a little off his game, Nuno Mendes was restricted and Asensio was too far off-centre to be fresh and score goals, Ruiz had almost no excuse for his more than “embarrassing” performance. He lacks speed and promptness, and inevitably this is annoying. He needs to do better and do it more often. His game is below the rest. He needs to get his act together.
