The 2025-2026 season for Paris Saint-Germain Women was far from a success: elimination in the Champions League group stage, defeats in the cup finals against OL Lyonnes, and elimination in the Première Ligue Arkéma playoffs against Paris FC. But all is not lost in this year of rebuilding. According to Le Parisien, the club’s management is banking on stability, as coach Paulo César will remain in his position.
“The club intends to build on this experience to bounce back and is already preparing for the future.”
“Despite a season falling short of the club’s ambitions, the management has decided to maintain its confidence in coach Paulo César. Promoted a year ago to succeed Fabrice Abriel, the former Brazilian defender, previously in charge of the U19s, has been confirmed in his role with the mission of significantly improving results. Aware of the shortcomings, the club intends to use this season as a springboard for recovery and is already preparing for the future.”
After taking on this role at the end of the 2024-2025 season when the team was struggling, Paulo César failed to win a trophy in his first season. This is all the more painful after the early-than-expected elimination from the Champions League. However, he did reach the finals of the Coupe de France and the Coupe LFFP before encountering a Lyon side that is difficult to compete against, especially with a squad that is still rebuilding.
An important point. The work done this season must now serve as a foundation for growth, whereas PSG has too often tended to start from scratch every summer. They will need to retain key players and add top-level talent, in addition to the promising young players already present. And why not attract even more? But Paulo César made it very clear at the end of the season that there should be no talk of “rebuilding” next year.
