Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco faced off this Friday at the Parc des Princes for the 21st day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The match ended in a 4-1 Parisian victory (PSG/Monaco video highlights). After the match, Monaco’s coach spoke at a press conference. He stressed that he felt the result was harsh.
Hütter “there’s no 4-1.”
“What did you miss?
We lost the game more in the first half, missing far too many opportunities. We should have taken the lead but we didn’t. In the end, PSG deserved to win. They’re one of the best teams in Europe at the moment, so congratulations to them and to Luis Enrique. Even so, we should have scored more. The score doesn’t reflect the quality we showed on the pitch.
How do you explain your team’s second-half performance?
We lost a few balls too easily against a team that moves fast and plays fantastic soccer. We made one mistake, and in 5 minutes, PSG killed the game by scoring two goals. We also took too many risks at the end because the team wanted to reduce the score. For me, the result is too high, it’s not 4-1. We’ll be concentrating on the next game against Benfica”, comments relayed by L’Equipe.
It’s understandable to be frustrated, but AS Monaco did some good things to cause PSG problems. There were opportunities to score more, in particular to open the scoring just moments before the opening whistle. However, as we had to point out when Paris failed to score the goals that went with their game, efficiency is part of soccer and part of a team.
It’s always tricky to say that a result isn’t deserved in this respect. The scoreboard may seem harsh, but it wasn’t done at random. So don’t throw away the content, of course. It’s good to have this hindsight. But there’s also work to be done to be more effective in both areas. And we hope that PSG will continue their fine attacking momentum, because it was very frustrating and penalizing to see so many chances wasted during the autumn.
