For their first match of 2025, Paris Saint-Germain took on AS Monaco in the Champions Trophy on Sunday (1-0 PSG/Monaco highlights). On the sidelines of the match, Nuno Mendes, the 22-year-old Parisian full-back, spoke to PSG TV about this success, which was also his hundredth match in a Paris shirt.
Mendes: “We managed to get the win and that’s the most important thing”.
“I’m very happy to have played my hundredth match. I have to say thank you to all my team-mates, the coach too, who have been here and that I’ve been able to rub shoulders with. I’m very happy and with this trophy it’s even nicer.
It was a final, and finals are complicated. Monaco have a good team, but we managed to get the win and that’s the most important thing, today we’re going home with the trophy.”
A fine and important victory for PSG, who needed to win their first official match of the year. Every trophy is important for the Parisian club. Faced with rivals AS Monaco, it was obviously going to be a tough game. But PSG fought hard right to the end to secure a much-needed victory.
Now it’s time to look ahead, as January promises to be a busy month. The second objective is, of course, to qualify for the Champions League, and to achieve this we need to be confident when we face Manchester City on January 22.
