Paris Saint-Germain beat Real Madrid 4-0 (video highlights PSG/Bayern Munich) on Wednesday at New York’s MetLife Stadium in the semi-finals of the 2025 Club World Cup. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We scored over 100 goals in January”.
What do you like most about winning?
The unrivalled quality and generosity of my players! People used to say we didn’t have a leader, but we scored over 100 goals in January and we’re one of the teams that concede the least. It’s a pleasure for me, as a coach, to work in Paris.
We didn’t think the objectives would be so ambitious or that we’d achieve them in this way. We’re one game away from making history and winning every tournament the club has ever entered.”
Enrique “they are all available to the team.”
Hakimi-Nuno Mendes?
They’re the two best full-backs in the world! Each plays a different role. But they all have to attack and defend. I’m at a club with substantial financial resources; we can recruit some very good players, but they’re all at the team’s disposal.
Achraf is more than a full-back; he can be an axial midfielder, a winger, a midfielder… And Nuno offers us great mobility. You can see them both finishing the same action, for example.
Enrique “There are no brakes in top-level competition.”
Is this a special match for you as a former Barça player?
My phone is full of congratulatory messages from Barça fans. The first objective was to reach the final in good condition. There are no brakes in top-level competition.
Enrique “My best player. The most decisive player.”
What Ballon d’Or for PSG?
Concerning the Ballon d’Or, I’ve already said who should win it. I’d give the trophy to the whole team, but the player who should win it by far is Dembélé. This is the first match I’ve seen Dembélé in good form all tournament. My best player. The most decisive player.
