Paris Saint-Germain has come up with a great initiative for its supporters, offering 500 euros to attend the Club World Cup semi-final against Real Madrid this Wednesday in New York (all expenses included, as well as the final on Sunday if they qualify). RMC Sport spoke to some of the members of the Collectif Ultras Paris who will be making the trip, and one of them made a promise.
“No official figures have been announced on the number of travelers, but it involves a few hundred people, including ultras who have been subscribers for a long time. “I think the Americans will be shocked,” laughs Benoît. “I know some fans who were in Los Angeles for the two PSG games. They got close to the fan clubs in Mexico City and Los Angeles. But it was nothing like that. There are going to be a lot of CUP people here, so it’s going to be weird for them, I think (smiles). They’re going to be weirded out by the chants alone, they’re going to click!
It’s an exciting prospect to find more hearty, upbeat chants at PSG matches. It’s also a real boost for the Parisian players, who could well find some extra strength at the end of this long season.
In any case, the chants of fans from European clubs are perhaps the greatest lack in this competition. There has been some cheering, but it’s not the same thing. Let’s hope that this presence will help the fans on site to push harder and get to know each other better for future occasions. PSG’s initiative is clearly appreciated.
