This Saturday at 9:05pm (broadcast on DAZN) Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Reims (13th) Parc des Princes as part of the 19th day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. In a press conference, Reims coach Luka Elsner spoke about the match and the Parisian opponent.
Elsner “Last night’s match was exceptional”.
“PSG?
Last night’s match was exceptional, both in terms of character and mental attitude. It was a very high-level match. To dominate Manchester City in such a way says a lot about the qualities we’ve been developing and working on for months. Now we’re going to try and play a match that will give us opportunities. It’s a soccer match, there will be some, and we’re going to build on that.
Elsner “A great performance at the Parc des Princes could change our dynamic.”
Any concerns?
I think it would be negative not to feel some. But we mustn’t let it turn into anxiety or anguish, thinking that we can’t do anything: that’s not the case. We have possibilities and the ability to respond. As we saw, we were able to put in a very good performance against Monaco. Confidence is a dynamic thing: today, it’s a little lower, but it can come back thanks to a good performance. For example, a good performance at the Parc des Princes could change our dynamic.”
There’s a hint of concern that Elsner is quick to turn into motivation. There’s nothing worse than letting players go out feeling helpless. Yes, if PSG play like they did against City, Reims will find it very difficult. That said, it’s a different context, a Ligue 1 match. PSG and the teams who play in the LDC often have difficulties in the matches before and after the European Cup. Paris will have to be very focused.
In any case, PSG are virtually invincible at the moment, and we’ll need a good Reims team to break their unshakeable domination. Reims are in dire straits, but we mustn’t give them any confidence. We trust Luis Enrique to remind us that there are no small games in a season. Elsner has been warned: PSG have never lost to a French club this season.
