This is the continuation of the saga: a summary of the latest news about the Paris Saint-Germain transfer window. This includes a review of the last 24 hours (published early this evening) to take stock of what’s happening, what hasn’t, what’s moving forward, and what’s surprising. Today, we’re reviewing the last day of the transfer window yesterday. Except in a few countries like Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, the names of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Randal Kolo Muani, Marco Asensio, Carlos Soler, and Khalil Ayari are mentioned.
It’s official:
- Gianluigi Donnarumma has been sold to Manchester City.
With only one year left on his contract at PSG, the club, encouraged by coach Luis Enrique, decided to replace Donnarumma with Lucas Chevalier (23). A way out was needed, and it’s now a reality with Manchester United, with a transfer estimated at €35-40 million, including bonuses.
Transfer Opinion:
There have already been lengthy discussions, but we can simply summarize. Negotiations with Paris were stalled, and Luis Enrique wanted a goalkeeper who could operate a little further from his line, while also being able to vary his kicking ability. Chevalier has that potential, but Donnarumma doesn’t. He still returns to an excellent team and, of course, remains at the highest level. The sum raised remains attractive, given the situation.
- Randal Kolo Muani loaned to Tottenham.
The 26-year-old striker, long rumored to be close to a return to Juventus, saw discussions between the two clubs never come to fruition. Therefore, he is not returning to Italy after a rather attractive six-month loan. He is leaving, in the same format, for Tottenham.
Transfer Opinion:
- Carlos Soler sold to Real Sociedad.
The 28-year-old midfielder failed to establish himself at PSG, and West Ham, who had changed managers, did not keep him after his loan. The Spaniard ultimately returned to La Liga, where he had shone with Valencia before joining PSG. This was a one-off transfer that left Paris with a 50% stake in a possible sale.
Opinion on the transfer:
Paris was no longer an option, so a solution had to be found, and this one isn’t too bad. PSG already recouped a small sum and can hope to see several millions return later, if Soler regains his comfort level in La Liga. As for the latter, he has a place to fill in an interesting team and a league he knows.
- Marco Asensio sold to Fenerbahçe.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder started well at Aston Villa, but failed to convince the players to sign a permanent deal following his loan spell in January. There was still no place at PSG, so he left. This time to Fenerbahçe and on a permanent transfer.
Opinion on the transfer:
As with the two previous players, the exit route remains attractive, even if there could be other preferences. It’s an ambitious club that will play in the Europa League. Asensio must find a way to regain his consistency. He should have room. As for the sale, estimated at over €10 million, it’s rather attractive, given that his contract with Paris expired in 2026.
- Khalil Ayari has signed for PSG!
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder/winger from Stade Tunisien has arrived at PSG, although the form of the transfer has not yet been confirmed. In fact, it hasn’t even been announced by the Parisian club. It would be a loan with an option to buy, with the player first joining the U21 squad (with whom he previously had trials) and who could gradually establish himself as a professional.
Transfer Opinion:
It’s difficult to comment on a player we know so little about. But he’s touted as a great talent, and PSG is taking only a limited risk with this move. He could be one of the big revelations of the season.
