On Friday evening, Paris Saint-Germain beat Angers 1-0 in their second Ligue 1 match of the 2025-2026 season at the Parc des Princes. Here are the highs and lows of this victory.
Highs –
Control, as always.
We’ll see how well PSG can keep up the pace throughout the season in this unique sequence of games with the Club World Cup, but at least we’re seeing a team that continues to play well together and is fueled by the energy of each player. This is very positive for the future, as the European champions PSG don’t seem to be thinking about letting up.
Fabian Ruiz decisive.
Long criticized during his time at PSG, Ruiz has finally reminded everyone that he belongs at the highest level. Notably in his contribution to the game, with vision and technical quality. But decisive actions count, of course. His goal won the game and can only do him good.
Lows –
Missed shots.
We’ll talk about it later, but the pitch didn’t help. Still, PSG had a hard time finding the target in this match. It’s a shame, given how dominant they were. It’s frustrating, just like against Nantes, because a lack of efficiency prevents them from feeling comfortable in matches. Nothing serious, but it’s the annoying part of an otherwise well-oiled game.
The pitch.
It happens, with summer conditions sometimes not helping, but it’s sad to see the Parc des Princes pitch in such a state. It doesn’t help when playing in small spaces and trying to get shots on target. We trust Jonathan Calderwood and his team to fix this before the next game, after the international break in early September.
Another missed penalty.
After two misses by Vitinha, it was Ousmane Dembélé’s turn to have a go. But he missed the target. Again, these things happen. But it’s annoying, and it can create a little doubt. Especially since the number 10 hasn’t scored yet this season. It’s best to banish any negative thoughts as quickly as possible.
