Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique (Champions League winners) spoke at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of tomorrow’s 2026 UEFA Super Cup match against Aston Villa (Europa League winners) at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg (kick-off at 9 PM, CET). On the sidelines of the event, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique “We aim to do what we did last year: be competitive all season long.”
How are you doing? How is the squad?
It’s a pleasure to be back here. We’re getting started; it’s been a different, unusual pre-season. The players returned at different times. We’re kicking things off with a lot of players arriving after the World Cup. We aim to do what we did last year: be competitive all season long.
Luis Enrique: “lots of trophies.”
What will the match be like? What will be the keys to the game?
I don’t know—it’s always hard to tell. Neither side is in peak condition. We’ll want to control possession. But we know that in a final, if we score the opening goal, the opposition will press hard. We hope to be competitive and we’re aiming for the win. It’s our first competitive match, and it’s important to us.
Did you miss the fans?
We’re very used to having them there, hearing them. It’s a pleasure. We hope to have another unforgettable year, with plenty of trophies.
