As part of Ligue 1’s 6th matchday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted AJ Auxerre at the Parc des Princes and won 2-0. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about the performance.
Enrique: “We were patient in creating spaces”
“There were a lot of positive things. Playing a match right after a Classique and before a Champions League game is always complicated, but I’m very happy. I saw the right mentality from all the players; they defended very well and I think we deserved this victory. We were patient in creating spaces and created a lot of chances.”
Enrique: “The negative point is the situation of players like Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia”
“After that, the academy boys were able to come on and play their first matches. It’s important for us to know that the Titis can help us, and in that sense the result is positive. The negative point is the situation of some players like Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia. We need to monitor things to see their exact condition tomorrow or the day after.”
It was an important win for PSG but one that came at a cost, with two new injuries that could rule players out of Wednesday’s trip to Barcelona in the Champions League. Nevertheless, the Parisians needed the three points to move back ahead of Marseille at the top of the table.
For the team’s momentum, this win restores confidence ahead of their return to European competition. But overall, the coming weeks promise to be tricky for the capital club. Bodies are exhausted after an almost uninterrupted season, and every player is paying the price. Hopefully the damage will be limited, but little by little the injury toll keeps growing.
