Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bayern Munich 5-4 this Tuesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League semi-final (second leg on Wednesday, May 6). Following this victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Luis Enrique: “I’m extremely tired without having run a kilometer.”
Everyone is talking about a historic match tonight, do you share this opinion?
“I think it was a match between two incredibly talented teams. We showed the type of football we love. But I can say that I’m extremely tired without having run a kilometer. They started the match better, but then we turned the game around. We started the second half better than them. But it was a match with different periods of intensity, different situations. Congratulations to both teams.”
You’re going to Munich to win, how do you see this second leg?
“I’m so tired that if I have to talk about the match in a week… We need to analyze this match and see what we can improve. When you face this kind of team, it’s always difficult. We conceded four goals, but it’s so different from what we’re used to. But I think the second leg will be similar.”
Luis Enrique: “After the 5-2, we think we could have done better.”
What did you feel when the fifth goal was scored?
“The pace of the match was different than usual. The players who came on were able to keep the rhythm going. The fifth goal was the best moment of the match. But I knew it wasn’t going to end there against a team like Bayern Munich. We won the match. We’re happy, but after the 5-2, we think we could have done better.” “We deserved to win, we deserved to draw, and we deserved to lose too.”
Vincent Kompany thinks it will be the same style of match in Munich. How many more goals do you need to score to qualify?
“I asked my staff the same question, and they told me a minimum of three. In a week, we’re going to Munich, a stadium we love, a stadium that brings back wonderful memories. We won our first Champions League in Munich. We’ll also be playing a bit at home. They’re even stronger with their fans, but for us, this stadium holds excellent memories.”
Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé shone again in this match. What’s your analysis of their performances?
“We can talk about the strikers who score, but today, what both teams showed, what the players showed, was exceptional. When you play this kind of football, in this kind of atmosphere, it’s a memory you keep forever.”
