Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich faced off this Tuesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League semi-final (the second leg is on Wednesday, May 6). The match ended in a 5-4 victory for PSG. After the game, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany spoke to CBS Sports Golazo.
Stanisic: “It wasn’t our best match, but we’re going home knowing that anything is possible.”
What are your feelings after the defeat?
It’s the kind of match where everything can change in small moments; we could have been ahead. But we have to congratulate PSG, who were incredible in attack at times. They were able to score from their chances. But the way they came back to 5-2 wasn’t easy. I’m very proud of the team. It wasn’t our best match, but we’re going home knowing that anything is possible.
Stanisic: “We didn’t give up, and it could have been 5-5 or 5-6.”
Were you physically stronger, and are you in better shape mentally for the return leg?
If you say so, it could be true. You saw, after it was 5-2, they celebrated as if it was all over. We didn’t give up, and it could have been 5-5 or 5-6. There were moments when we could have scored by playing the situation better. There might be some truth in what you’re saying. Anything is possible at home. It will be a great match.
How are Olise and Diaz in training against them?
It’s clearly difficult in one-on-one situations; it’s a real challenge. I don’t know any defender who wins all their duels. You have to accept it and congratulate the opponent. They’re not here for nothing. We do our best to defend. It’s very tough over the course of a match. As against PSG, we know their qualities. We do our best. But sometimes they need a little time. Which is what happened tonight.
