Paris Saint-Germain hosted Le Havre this Saturday as part of Matchday 13 in Ligue 1 and won 3-0. After the match, Luis Enrique, the club’s head coach, spoke to PSG TV to reflect on the victory.
Enrique: “It was important for us to get back to first place in the league”
“It’s always difficult to manage things after an international break. You have to control each player’s minutes, their physical condition, the trips they made… I think the best thing we achieved today is the result. In the first half, we were quite imprecise, but the result is good and these three points are very important for us.
I’m looking for us to improve and for the team to play better, but right now it’s crucial to get results because we have to think about the next match. It will be a Champions League game, and it was important for us to take back first place in the league. We have to keep improving.”
Fully in control, PSG managed to reclaim the top spot. It is never easy to play right after an international break and just before another Champions League fixture. This time, however, Luis Enrique’s players found the focus and the energy needed to claim the win.
The increased competition in the league this season also forces PSG to stay sharp. There is still about a month of competition left before the winter break—a month to try to widen the gap in the table and approach the second half of the season with a bit more serenity.
