Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final (second leg on April 14). Following the victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.

Enrique: “We deserved to score another goal.”Enrique: “It will be very difficult to play at Anfield.”

Enrique: “We deserved to score another goal.”

Did you take a step forward tonight?

“First of all, we played a very good match against a very high-level opponent, very strong physically. We’re used to different tactics against us, which was the case for them. We deserved this result. It’s a shame because in the second half, we could have scored even more.”

Does this 2-0 scoreline leave you with any regrets?

“No. That’s football, that’s how it is. You have to accept it.” We played a very good match against Liverpool. We were patient and composed. We saw the different kind of fans we have again.

Is Kvaratskhelia a different player in the Champions League?

“He’s the same. It’s the same team regardless of the competition. He’s young, but he has a lot of experience. They’re more motivated in the biggest competition. We’re happy with that mentality and with how we defended against Liverpool. We deserved to score another goal.”

Enrique: “It will be very difficult to play at Anfield.”

Is Liverpool still in the running?

“There’s no difference in level between the two teams. We just played a very high-level match. It will be very difficult to play at Anfield. We’re going to suffer there. I’ve played there a lot as a player and as a coach. But we’ll go there, like everywhere else, to win and qualify.”

Can the Anfield atmosphere destabilize PSG?

“Nothing will change our mentality. We’re not looking to defend a result. There will be 3,000 Parisian fans there. We’re going to prepare for the match in the best possible way.”

Were you surprised by Warren Zaïre-Emery’s performance?

“I’m not surprised by any of the PSG players’ performances. I know them very well.”

Is your team ahead of English football?

“I don’t know about the others. What I do know is that I choose my style of play. Our style is to play for our fans, to be very aggressive. We’re very happy because our fans are very happy.”
