On Wednesday, in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-finals (second leg on April 14), Paris Saint-Germain faced Liverpool at the Parc des Princes. Virgil Van Dijk, the 34-year-old defender for the English team, spoke to CBS Sports after PSG’s 2-0 victory.
Van Dijk: “Liverpool must not accept defeat.”
What to do after the defeat?
I think about the team, that’s the most important thing. I talk to the players. We won’t have many training sessions, but we have conversations and we have to make sure we’re at our best. Everyone showed the right mentality. We lost, it’s a disappointment.
Liverpool must not accept defeat. I’m not used to this here. It was painful, against City too. But there’s still an opportunity. We have to be ready for a special night. We have to stick together. Not just the team, but the whole club.
Weren’t you together enough?
No, but our season has been so inconsistent. And the rumors are there. We’re the reigning champions, and rightfully so. But it’s not an easy season, with everything that needs to be managed.
