Luis Enrique, the Paris Saint-Germain coach, held a press conference on Tuesday ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League playoff second leg against AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes (kick-off at 9 pm, CET). PSG lost the first leg 2-3. During the press conference, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “It’s important for confidence and for the team.”
Does the victory against Metz help with confidence?
There are always challenges. You might think a match will be easy, but that’s far from reality. Every match is difficult. We overcame the match very well, with players who don’t play often. We took full advantage of being at home, of playing, with a brilliant start. It’s important for confidence and for the team to know that everyone is performing at the required level.
But tomorrow will be different. There’s the positive result from the first leg, but Monaco has nothing to lose. We have to be aware that there will be difficult moments in the match.
Luis Enrique: “The objective is to win the first half, to win the second half.”
Monaco overturned Lens on Saturday, is that something to keep in mind?
It’s difficult to know what’s best. Their result is wonderful, but we also have to remain calm. Every match is different. This one showed their level. We know how difficult this competition is. We’ll be at the Parc des Princes, and the atmosphere will be crucial in creating the right environment to play our game and control the match. The objective is to win the first half and the second half. It’s a mentality we want to cultivate in every match.
