Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-3 to AS Monaco this Friday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 25 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Luis Enrique: “We saw some uncharacteristic mistakes.”
How do you explain this defeat?
“We were very imprecise in several parts of the match. We saw some uncharacteristic mistakes. When you do that against a team in excellent form, you pay the price. We gave them a gift to start with. And a lot of inaccuracies.”
Did you also see any shortcomings during training this week?
“No. That’s the nature of training and competition. I don’t want to lose confidence in this team right now. We’ve shown this mentality of continuing until the end.” It’s not the best result, but we like a challenge.
Luis Enrique: “Confidence can’t be bought at the supermarket.”
Are the difficulties primarily mental?
“Clearly. It’s the mental aspect that’s the problem right now. I’ve lost a lot of matches in my career; it’s a strange feeling, one that’s never pleasant. There’s no single key to a defeat. It’s multifactorial. Confidence can’t be bought at the supermarket. We’re clearly struggling. We have to be hopeful that we can change that.”
How do you turn things around against Chelsea?
“Now is the time to talk about Monaco. There are no conclusions to be drawn regarding the Champions League. We’ll talk about it the day before and the day of the match.”
Luis Enrique: “I’m trying to counterbalance the pessimistic moment.”
Is your team capable of showing a different side of itself in the Champions League?
“It was a strange match.” We have to accept our mistakes, from different players. It’s a difficult moment to turn things around. I’ve experienced this situation many times in my career. It’s up to us to correct it. I want to be optimistic with my players so we can get back to our best.
How to correct the defensive weaknesses?
“The first goal was a gift, unusual in professional football. We are one of the best defensive teams in the league and the Champions League. Conceding goals isn’t something we’re used to. I’m trying to counter the pessimistic mood. We can change the situation, and that’s what we’ll be looking to do in the immediate future.”
