Nuno Mendes, the 23-year-old left-back for Paris Saint-Germain, spoke to Ligue1+ after the 3-1 defeat against AS Monaco this Friday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 25 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season.
Nuno Mendes: “We weren’t at our best, offensively or defensively.”
How do you explain being outplayed again?
They have a good team. Today, we weren’t at our best, offensively or defensively. It’s tough. We conceded an early goal, and then they tried to waste time. That’s not the kind of football we should be showing in Ligue 1. There’s quality in both teams. For me, when you score, you want to score even more. But that’s what they did. And we weren’t good.
Why?
There are days when things don’t go your way, and today was one of them. But when you’re not good offensively, you have to be good defensively. That wasn’t the case. We conceded three goals, which is a lot. We have to improve a lot to be ready for Wednesday and have a good game.
Nuno Mendes: “We had to win today”
Is the Chelsea match already on your mind and causing you problems?
No, we’re focused on the match we’re playing. We had to win today; we have Lens coming up behind us. We can’t afford to drop points, otherwise it’s going to hurt.
Is it physically demanding?
Yes, it is. There are some matches you have to control. If we score first, we can manage the game better. We have to work hard to do what we need to do on Wednesday.
