Paris Saint-Germain defeated Olympique de Marseille on penalties (2-2, then 4-1 on penalties) this Thursday in Kuwait in the 2025 Trophée des Champions. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We have very good penalty takers and top-level goalkeepers.”
How are you so effective in penalty shootouts?
“Some say it’s luck. Maybe. Every team and every goalkeeper has the information. We have very good penalty takers and top-level goalkeepers. It’s a fantastic combination.”
What’s your assessment of the match?
“We started well. We scored. But then, OM played very well. Better than us. With and without the ball. They have a lot of quality, and so does their coach.” They probably deserved more. We fought until the last minute, as usual, as we always do, we’ve already shown that.
Enrique: “He has the personality and the character. We’re very happy to have him.”
Are you satisfied with Gonçalo Ramos’s performances?
“I’d like to talk about him. He’s a soldier. He’s ready to play for one minute, at the start of the match, or not at all. He has the personality and the character. We’re very happy to have him.”
Lucas Chevalier: Did he give the expected answer?
“He played a very good match. The team was strong. He showed his qualities in the penalty shootout and he was decisive.”
Do you feel even stronger with the accumulation of experience and titles?
“When it comes to penalties, there’s more energy on our side. At 1-1, there was more energy for Marseille.” We’ve shown many times that we fight until the very last minute, just like our fans. We dedicate this victory to them.
Were you expecting a final like this?
“It was open, there was a lot of intensity. We struggled to press. They defended very well and very high up the pitch. They have a very good team and a very good coach.”
