Due to an unplayable pitch at the Parc des Princes, the Matchday 1 fixture of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season between Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes had to be relocated just days before the game. It was ultimately played at Roazhon Park (2-2), Rennes’ home stadium. On Friday, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced a €150,000 fine for PSG but confirmed that the return fixture—scheduled for the weekend of March 6 as part of Matchday 23—would indeed take place at the Parc des Princes. Rennes immediately indicated that they might refer the matter to the CNOSF (French National Olympic and Sports Committee).

There was hope for a quick resolution with this LFP decision, which seems reasonably fair. However, Rennes may well not let the matter rest there. A prolonged battle could be on the cards. It is a shame; French football does not need another controversy. Let us hope everything is resolved quickly. That will evidently depend on the details of the LFP’s decision—specifically, whether the terms are acceptable to Rennes.
