Paris Saint-Germain cruised to a 5-0 victory over Rennes this Saturday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 15 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference. Following a question about the unpopular 23-year-old defender Ilya Zabarnyi, he criticized the media and then offered much shorter answers than usual.
Enrique: “Every time you ask a question, it’s to create a problem.”
Was it a perfect evening?
“Absolutely! An almost perfect evening! We’re happy. We scored five goals without conceding any. Rennes played very well and didn’t deserve the scoreline. We were very efficient. It’s very positive.”
Was Zabarnyi’s absence due to Safonov starting the match?
“It’s unbelievable! Every time you ask a question, it’s to create a problem. He’s sick. Simple as that. He was sick for the last two days. No controversy. He’s sick!”
Five goals from five different forwards, what’s changed this week?
“Nothing.”
Enrique: “We want to improve every week.”
How do you analyze this match?
“Right now in Ligue 1, there are teams playing very well, like Lens, who are top and deserve it. It motivates us to have a tighter fight. We want to improve every week.”
Why did you favor some academy players over others?
“I don’t give anything away. When an academy player plays, it’s because they deserve to play. They all want to play. I’d rather play my grandmother, but no favors. We play if we deserve it. Otherwise, we have to improve.”
What’s your assessment of 2025?
“It was a sensational year for PSG, the fans, and for me.”
Are you proud of your players?
“Absolutely! I’m proud of my players, the fans, and the incredible atmosphere. It was a real pleasure to play at the Parc des Princes.”
