Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham faced off this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 5 of the 2025-2026 Champions League. The match ended in a 5-3 victory for PSG. After the game, Tottenham manager Thomas Frank spoke at a press conference.
Frank: “There’s a foundation to build on.”
A performance you can be proud of despite the result?
Yes, without a doubt. I’m very happy with the performance. It was the reaction I wanted from the players and the team. We worked hard on this, to react after the poor performance against Arsenal. This time, we saw the identity of the team I want, the personality, the intensity, the aggression. I’m satisfied.
We needed this performance to have any hope. There’s frustration, with some great goals and others we should have avoided. But there’s a foundation to build on. We played against a great team, with a Ballon d’Or winner and probably the next one in midfield, Vitinha. What a player!
Did Kolo Muani have a good performance?
Yes, we saw what he can bring. Even if we can’t always expect two goals and one assist. He arrived late, without any preparation, and he’s had two injuries. We hope he can play more.
Frank: “We had to be able to keep up in duels, to put on the pressure.”
Can you explain your tactical approach?
The plan was to get forward, to play one-on-one. That’s our identity, our aggression. Against such a fluid PSG, we needed midfielders ready to repeat the work.
Was Tottenham dangerous?
I think it’s a combination of things. We were more effective than on Sunday, and I also think it was a more open match. We were able to use our mobility.
Why these choices in midfield?
The game plan was to have four midfielders, not wingers. We needed to be able to keep up in duels and apply pressure. It also helped to have players like these to exploit the spaces.
