Emmanuel Grégoire, recently elected mayor of Paris, has revived the idea of selling the Parc des Princes stadium to Paris Saint-Germain. Indeed, the Paris City Council mandated him Tuesday evening to resume discussions. Following this, PSG extended an olive branch to reopen the talks, as reported by Le Parisien on Wednesday.

“These discussions must be based on in-depth studies.”

“Following the vote in this direction Tuesday evening by the Paris City Council, PSG stated it is ‘willing to reopen discussions’ with City Hall regarding a potential purchase of the Parc des Princes, a subject of tension for several years between the capital and the Parisian club.

“Given the proposed guidelines and the historical link between the club and its stadium, PSG confirmed to the Mayor of Paris its willingness to reopen discussions,” the club emphasized, adding that “these discussions must be based on in-depth studies that will answer all outstanding questions.”

“A new perspective to explore”

According to the club, “the proposal to integrate the Parc des Princes into a broader redevelopment program for the Porte de Saint-Cloud area, spearheaded by the City Hall, also represents a new perspective to explore,” especially since the mayor has promised “there will be no shopping center.”

The project has officially been revived, with both parties stating they are open to discussions and consideration. However, it is still far from a done deal. There have been obstacles in recent years, and an agreement this time is not guaranteed. Significant challenges remain, such as the cost and the difficulty of carrying out the work desired by PSG.

However, this is already an improvement over the seemingly complete closure of the project. We will now wait to see where this new development leads in this long and complex saga. A relocation to Massy or Poissy cannot be ruled out.
