At the end of Paris Saint-Germain’s matches in August, as we now do after every game (based on the podium finishes in the “man of the match” votes), we asked fans to vote for the “Player of the Month.” João Neves (20-year-old midfielder) came out on top.
Reminder of PSG’s August matches:
- PSG vs. Tottenham (2-2, 4-3 on penalties)
- Nantes vs. PSG (0-1)
- PSG vs. Angers (1-0)
- Toulouse vs. PSG (3-6)
Neves’ win may come as a surprise, since he was suspended for the first two matches. But his performances after returning for the next two games did not go unnoticed. In particular, his influence on the team’s play and, of course, his exceptional hat-trick against Toulouse helped him secure plenty of votes.
Fabian Ruiz (29-year-old midfielder) and Vitinha (25-year-old midfielder) may have been less spectacular, even though Ruiz scored the winning goal against Angers. Still, both provided balance and consistency to the team. It’s worth noting that the entire midfield trio makes up the podium — a sign of PSG’s dominance in this area, but also of the attackers’ relative lack of effectiveness.
Lucas Chevalier (23-year-old goalkeeper) also made a solid start following his arrival. While not flawless, he still collected a few votes — never an easy task for a goalkeeper.
We thank you for your participation in the vote and remind you that the podium finishes for these “Player of the Month” awards will serve as the basis for the Player of the Season award, as only players who appear at least once on the podium will be nominated.
