Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique held a press conference this Saturday ahead of tomorrow’s match against Rennes at the Roazhon Park (kick-off at 8:45 PM, CET) in the opening round of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. Alongside the press conference, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “We’ve had time to prepare the team. What I’ve seen is very positive.”
You’ve had several days for rest and preparation; how did it go?
It was a very good week. We had a difficult start to the season, playing two matches—two finals, essentially—in four days. This week, we’ve had time to prepare the team. What I’ve seen is very positive, with plenty of intensity. We’re preparing in the best possible way; I’m very happy, truly.
Excited about the competition in Ligue 1?
From what I’ve seen over the last three years, it’s not an easy league. We’ve been consistent and better than the rest, but last year we saw a very exciting Lens side that was tough to beat. We’ve seen Ligue 1’s appeal across Europe, too. We hope that continues, and we must keep trying to improve.
Luis Enrique: “We have a team that motivates the opposition.”
How do you view the match against Rennes? Do you need to get back into the groove?
It’s the usual scenario for an away game, considering the stadium atmosphere and what it means to play against us. We have a team that motivates the opposition—even more so this year. It will be a tight, difficult match. We still need to improve. We played very well at Lens; the result didn’t reflect that, but football can be unfair at times. We have to stay focused on what needs improving. We’ve put in the work, and we’re happy to be playing tomorrow.
