Paris Saint-Germain legend Safet Susic spoke to Le Parisien after the club’s historic Champions League victory over Inter Milan (5-0). At 69, the former playmaker sees this triumph as a turning point for PSG, who are now ready to dominate Europe thanks to a young and ambitious team.
Susic “It’s impressive, PSG have been unstoppable for several months now”.
“Could we really have dreamed of anything better for this historic final?
Absolutely not. PSG have been unstoppable for several months now, and they’re playing so well. No team has ever won the Champions League final by a five-goal margin, and that’s the proof. People say that Inter weren’t good, but to be good, the other team has to allow it. Paris were so exceptional, they didn’t allow Inter to play any better. They made fools of them.
Susic “At the moment, PSG are by far the best team in Europe”.
In your opinion, has PSG entered a new dimension thanks to this title?
It changes a lot of things, that’s for sure. For next year, they’re already the big favourites. The hardest thing is to win the first time. Maybe they’ll do what Zidane’s Real Madrid did with three titles in a row. At the moment, PSG are by far the best team in Europe. And they’re very young. No team has an attacking line like Paris, with four really impressive monsters.
Susic “Luis Enrique knows what he’s doing, what he wants”.
Does this confirm that PSG have chosen the right project, with fewer stars and a real collective?
It certainly does. The boys they took on last year and this year, like Doué and Barcola, didn’t come for free, nor did Kvaratskhelia, Paris Saint-Germain has the means to make these transfers. But they chose a real collective, players who could play together, who are very young. Luis Enrique knows what he’s doing and what he wants. He’s managed to install exceptional control in the game, very few teams are capable of playing like that.”
Safet Susic, the emblematic figure of Paris Saint-Germain, is the living memory of a club he has marked with his talent and loyalty for nine seasons. Seeing PSG finally win the Champions League, a dream long cherished by a whole generation of fans, fills him with deep and sincere joy.
For “Magic Susic”, it’s not an isolated achievement, but the start of a new era: he believes that Paris now has everything it takes to establish itself at the pinnacle of European soccer. His enthusiasm is not limited to the historic performance against Inter Milan: he sees PSG’s youth, cohesion and collective strategy as the ingredients for future domination, going so far as to predict further titles over the next five years.
Susic, himself voted best player in the club’s history, lends particular weight to this prophecy: when a Parc legend asserts that Paris can reign over Europe, the whole history of PSG opens up to a radiant future.
