Matvey Safonov, the 27-year-old goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain and Russia, was invited to a Telegram discussion with fans to rate PSG’s 2025-2026 season.

How would you rate this season, from 0 to 10?
Matvey Safonov: I’d give it a 9 out of 10. We didn’t win everything. If we had won everything, it would have been a 10.
A rating that seems fairly accurate, even if we know the performances were disappointing for several months. However, the context must be taken into account. Without a proper preseason, PSG was predicted to face a “nightmare” by many observers. He finally managed to achieve several impressive performances and win both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
The latter for the second time in a row, cementing his place in football history. Unfortunately, he missed out on the Coupe de France. This warrants deducting a point, but no more; there’s no need to overreact to a single night when luck simply wasn’t on his side.
