Paris Saint-Germain and AS Saint-Étienne faced off this Saturday at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard for the 27th day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The match ended in a 1-6 Parisian victory. During the match, 17-year-old striker Ibrahim Mbaye became the third-youngest goalscorer in PSG’s history, as reported by Le Parisien.
“While Luis Enrique relies mainly on experienced players, he also knows how to give youngsters a chance.
“It’s a statistic that has gone unnoticed, but this Saturday a young Parisian talent made history for his club. By scoring his 6th goal against Stéphan (6-1), Ibrahim Mbaye became the third-youngest goalscorer in PSG history.
At 17 years and 64 days, the striker is second only to Warren Zaïre-Emery (16 years and 330 days) and Bartholomew Ogbeche (17 years and 55 days). Proof that while Luis Enrique relies mainly on experienced players, he also knows how to give a chance to those who have come through the youth ranks. ”
There are no small ways of making history at a major club like PSG. Mbaye, appreciated by Luis Enrique, was going to score at some point and now he has done so. Good for him, good for PSG, even if there’s still a long way to go.
It’s good to see continuity. Luis Enrique doesn’t judge his youngsters on the basis of a few performances, it’s a long process, reminiscent of the way Bradley Barcola was managed last year or Désiré Doué this year. The youngsters are given the space to grow, and after that, nobody will do the work for them. Let’s hope he grows into the club in the years to come.
