For the 7th matchday of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face RC Strasbourg. They had to fight hard to turn the situation around and secure a 1-3 victory (video highlights here). Following the match, Luis Enrique, the coach of the capital club, spoke to PSG TV to discuss the result.
Luis Enrique: “We anticipated that we would face difficulties.”
“In Strasbourg, Lens, Lille… when you play away from home, these are never easy matches. Teams playing against us have an extra level of motivation, which is something that’s challenging to manage when you’re a player for a club like PSG. But I’m happy. We expected to face difficulties, yet we started the match in a positive way. We just lacked that opening goal to really settle into the game. Instead, our opponent scored, which led to a loss of confidence and affected the remainder of the first half.”
Luis Enrique: “It’s clear that there is still room for improvement.”
“But I think we regained control of the match in the second half. With the introduction of fresh players—given the quality we have on the bench—we managed to win the match, and we’re very pleased. Mentality is clearly crucial when playing these kinds of games. To achieve what we want to achieve, we need every player to be ready for competition, regardless of the opponent. Today wasn’t easy for those who play less frequently to perform at their best, but I believe we demonstrated the right mentality. It’s clear that there is still room for improvement, but that’s only natural.”
As expected, the capital club encountered difficulties during the first half. Just two days after their Champions League match against Manchester City (2–4), PSG returned to league action with a reshuffled squad. Several key players—notably Vitinha, Ousmane Dembélé, and Désiré Doué—were brought on during the second half.
Their introduction proved decisive; the Parisians managed to equalize before pulling ahead to secure a 3–1 victory. This serves as excellent preparation for their upcoming European fixture, as PSG are set to host FC Barcelona this Tuesday. It will be another major clash that they must navigate carefully, facing an in-form opponent also eager to secure all three points in this group stage.
