Lucas Beraldo, the 22-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender/midfielder, has officially extended his contract until 2031. Speaking to PSG TV, the Brazilian international discussed the extension and his development since arriving from São Paulo in 2024.
Beraldo: “I never thought I’d win all these things”
What does extending your contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2031 mean to you?
“It means a great deal to me and my family. First and foremost, I have to thank Luis Campos, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Enrique, the entire squad, and the club. Without them, I wouldn’t have secured this extension. I am very grateful.”
When you arrived from São Paulo in 2024, did you imagine experiencing all this?
“No, of course not. Everything was new in 2024—joining a massive club like Paris Saint-Germain. It was incredible. I never thought I’d win all these things—those two Champions League titles over these three years.”
Beraldo: “I’ve really been able to discover myself and my capabilities”
What made you want to extend your contract with PSG?
“My whole life is in Paris now. I’ve always been made to feel welcome here, and my entire family lives here now. I’m truly very happy to continue with PSG.”
In what areas do you feel you’ve improved since your arrival?
“There are three fundamental pillars to my development at the club: the physical, the tactical, and the technical. Obviously, there’s also the coach’s decision to move me into midfield. I’ve really been able to discover myself and my capabilities. No matter where I play, I’ve also realized that the most important thing is helping the team.”
What did you find difficult when you first arrived that seems easier today?
“The intensity of the matches, I think—and the training sessions, too. Individual work with the best players in the world has allowed me to improve tremendously.”
Beraldo: “I simply have to thank him for allowing me to develop.”
Was Luis Enrique a key figure in your development?
“I simply have to thank him for allowing me to develop and for always being open to discussion. Technically, tactically, and mentally too, he played a major role in that evolution—both in matches and in training. I learned a huge amount about how to play, defend, and attack.”
What was going through your mind during your first Champions League match in 2024?
“It was a childhood dream come true. I think my smile tells a big part of my story—showing that anything is possible and that I was truly savoring the moment. I’m very proud of that moment. I think that’s the key: simply enjoying the moment.”
Beraldo: “I was so happy to be there.”
Tell us about that penalty in the Champions League final—what was that experience like for you?
“I saw an opportunity. If he put me in that position, it was because he trusted me. It was a crucial moment, but I was just so happy to be there. I wasn’t thinking about whether the goalkeeper might save it or not; I was just in a positive mindset. It was an incredible moment—for us, for the club, and for the fans. Winning back-to-back Champions League titles is a historic achievement. And we want to keep maintaining that high standard.”
Do you feel like a true Parisian these days?
“I live like a Parisian now. I really feel at home here. The fact that I speak French now also helps a lot—it makes me feel at home and allows me to express myself. I feel good here all the time.”
