The European Super Cup, which Paris Saint-Germain just won in 2025 against Tottenham, could be modified in the coming years by UEFA. According to The Telegraph, the football body would like to add matches.
“According to The Telegraph, the European Super Cup, won Wednesday by PSG against Tottenham, could become a four-team tournament held before the resumption of domestic leagues.”
It’s been a common practice for several years: governing bodies are looking to add matches. The objective is clear: to increase revenue. This can become tiresome, as you also have to consider the players’ health. But we also know that it’s still far from being the worst job in the world. Also, for this competition, it would only add one more match during a period when teams usually have friendly matches.
So it’s not the most insane development. Of course, it seems crazy for PSG today, since they’ve already had almost no time to prepare. But a Club World Cup finalist (every four years) probably won’t often be the winner of the Champions League or the Europa League. At least there’s reason to think about it.
