Here’s our series. The 5 best reasons to watch a match (with some adjustments here and there). We’ll be highlighting the most appealing aspects before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the Paris Saint-Germain match this Saturday against Monaco at the Stade Louis II for Matchday 14 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season (kick-off at 5 pm, CET).

5 – A historic match-up.

There isn’t a particularly intense rivalry, but this is still a match that holds significance in the history of French football. Both teams have frequently been among the top teams, both in France and in Europe. There have even been some very close title races. It’s a match with a certain amount of anticipation.

4 – Is Paul Pogba ready?

Paul Pogba, the 32-year-old midfielder, returned to action last weekend for a few minutes during the defeat at Rennes. He then didn’t play this week against Paphos in the Champions League. It remains to be seen whether he’ll be ready to face PSG this weekend. His return is one of the major sagas in French football, and this time Paris is involved. It’s expected to be a major topic of discussion during the match. It’s a special moment after a long suspension.

3 – Dembélé, aiming for a return to form.

Ousmane Dembélé, the 28-year-old PSG striker, is in a more typical situation: returning from injury. He came on as a substitute against Tottenham, albeit somewhat tentatively. The idea will certainly be to play more to regain rhythm and form. But caution is advised after several physical setbacks since the end of last season. This will be something to watch closely.

2 – A high-scoring match.

PSG has an attacking philosophy and still possesses considerable potential, as does AS Monaco. However, they also have a certain defensive fragility. We can therefore expect to see a fast-paced match and plenty of goals. Let’s hope we don’t encounter a defensive strategy from Monaco.

1 – The Race for the Title and European Qualification

PSG is aiming for the title and cannot afford to fall behind, as Lens and Olympique de Marseille remain close behind. For its part, Monaco wants to qualify for Europe again next season, ideally for the Champions League. The pressure is on after a poor run of form (3 defeats). They will have to fight hard in this difficult match to secure a positive result.
