Here’s our series. The 5 good reasons to watch a match (with a few adjustments here and there). We’ll revisit the appealing aspects before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the Paris Saint-Germain match this Thursday against Olympique de Marseille at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait for the 2025 Champions Trophy (kick-off at 7 pm CET).
5 – An exceptional evening.
We’re probably not the only ones who have been promising for a while that PSG never plays on Thursdays. This allows them to organize other things. So we’ll have to adapt, accepting that the Professional Football League doesn’t care much about our lives outside of it.
The timing isn’t convenient either. But it’s a moment to experience; we’d forgotten what a Thursday night match was like. Thanks to the Europa League in previous seasons, this isn’t as much the case for OM.
4 – A revenge for the September defeat.
On September 22nd, Olympique de Marseille experienced a liberation by returning to winning ways against Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 at the Vélodrome. A hard-fought 1-0 for Paris. They were missing key players and lacked fitness, that’s clear. But that doesn’t change the result.
So we’re hoping for a response from the Parisians, who should be in better shape, even if it’s not ideal. For their part, OM will want to confirm their form.
3 – Chevalier needs to turn things around.
After a mixed start to the season, Lucas Chevalier (24-year-old goalkeeper) unfortunately distinguished himself with a miss during the Classico loss in Ligue 1 in September. This is a crucial match; it’s time to turn things around. Especially since Matvey Safonov (26 years old) has put pressure on the competition. His performance will be closely watched, and we hope he has a positive outcome.
2 – A Classico.
There’s a context for every match, and it certainly matters. However, a Classico is also always a little different, with a special flavor and moments that can go down in history. You have to know how to enjoy these matches.
1 – A Trophy at the End.
We mentioned the context earlier, and it’s clearly not negligible here. Even if it’s not the most anticipated competition of the season, it’s a line to add to the record. It should be a source of motivation and a moment to be fully savored. It’s even sweeter if we win against our arch-rival. And it’s important to deny them another title (their last being the League Cup in 2012).
