Pedro Fernandez Sarmiento, often called Dro Fernandez, is reportedly very close to joining Paris Saint-Germain this winter. The 18-year-old midfielder does not want to extend his contract, which expires in 2027, with FC Barcelona and has a €6 million release clause that PSG is expected to trigger. Barça coach Hansi Flick was asked to comment at a press conference this Saturday.
Flick: “When it’s done, we’ll talk.”
“I don’t want to comment on Dro. As a coach, you give them confidence, you help them improve, and I know they have people around them. We have to wait until it’s done. When it’s done, we’ll talk.”
While not explicitly confirming Dro Fernandez’s departure, the coach also made it clear that it’s the likely outcome and that there is some anger. We can expect a rather vehement reaction when the signing of the young Spaniard is announced. This is likely to be the case with PSG, although it’s not a done deal until it’s official. Clearly, Flick is struggling to accept the influence of his young player’s entourage. This is something to keep an eye on, of course, even if it could be an overreaction given the difficulty of accepting his departure.
