Paris Saint-Germain has just struck two major deals within the span of 48 hours. In a transfer market update published by L’Équipe, Loïc Tanzi discusses this dramatic surge in activity, the contrasting readiness of the two incoming signings, and the potential impact of player departures.
Tanzi: “Two decisive days in the summer transfer window”
“An agreement with FC Barcelona on Thursday for the transfer of Ferran Torres for just under €50 million, followed by another with Ajax on Friday for Mika Godts for €55 million: PSG has just experienced two decisive days in its summer transfer window.”
Over €100 million has been committed to these two deals. When factoring in the arrivals of Maghnes Akliouche, Zion Suzuki, and Lucas Digne, Paris’s total investment is now approaching €200 million. This represents a significant acceleration, yet one kept within the club’s budget thanks to major sales made earlier in the summer.
Tanzi: “Ferran Torres will need much more time”
“Already physically fit following his pre-season work with Ajax—and having played 286 minutes across four competitive matches—the 21-year-old faces no physical hurdles to making his debut in the Paris jersey. […] Ferran Torres, who is also expected to arrive in Paris soon, will need considerably more time. […] The 2026 World Cup winner will therefore begin his preparations with Paris this weekend, hoping to make Luis Enrique’s squad next week.”
Mika Godts could quickly become an option for Luis Enrique and even hopes to be available for the Trophée des Champions match against Lens. Ferran Torres will follow a more gradual schedule, as he has not yet resumed training with FC Barcelona. Consequently, while both signings will arrive at the same time, they will not be ready to play immediately. Tanzi: “We’ll have to keep an eye on departures”
“To answer that question, we’ll have to keep an eye on departures. Liverpool are set to renew their pursuit of Bradley Barcola next week, and Ibrahim Mbaye needs to commit to the project he wishes to join.”
The agreements for Godts and Torres do not necessarily mark the end of recruitment. Decisions regarding Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye will determine the squad’s remaining needs. One final attacking reinforcement could be considered, particularly if Luis Enrique makes greater use of Désiré Doué and Maghnes Akliouche in midfield.
