Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivorian forward currently with RB Leipzig (under contract until 2030), was heavily linked to Paris Saint-Germain during this transfer window. However, PSG failed to reach an agreement with the German club, and Real Madrid now looks set to finalize the transfer.
Ben Jacobs: “Real Madrid moving quickly.”
Santi Aouna (Foot Mercato): “Diomande has given the green light to join Real Madrid.”
Matteo Moretto (Marca): “The player is making Real Madrid his absolute priority.”
“Real Madrid is accelerating negotiations for Yan Diomande. The player is making Real Madrid his absolute priority and has already given his consent; discussions between Real Madrid and Leipzig are now entering their most intense phase.”
Nothing is done until the contract is signed; we shouldn’t forget the wave of similar reports regarding Diomande joining PSG. However, those rumors were never as strong or advanced—largely due to the price hurdle, an obstacle Real Madrid appears ready to overcome with a massive offer.
Some PSG fans are expressing regret, yet it makes sense not to force a move when the squad has just won the Champions League back-to-back—achieved with players who cost far less but are arguably just as talented. Diomande is a very promising player, but football obviously doesn’t begin and end with him.
It is safe to assume that Paris has other targets lined up for this summer transfer window to make a few adjustments to the squad. Following the departures of Gonçalo Ramos (AC Milan) and Lee Kang-In (Atlético Madrid), at least two new signings are expected.
