Paris Saint-Germain is about to welcome another talented youngster to its ranks: Thomas Cordier, a 19-year-old left-back, is to join Red Star in Ligue 2. According to L’Équipe and Le Parisien, the defender, twice French U19 champion with PSG, is set to sign a three-year contract with the Saint-Ouen club.

Another departure for #PSG’s “Espoirs”… defender Thomas Cordier leaving for Red Star.

Having trained with Paris Saint-Germain since the age of nine, 19-year-old Thomas Cordier has worked his way up through the youth ranks to establish himself as a key figure in the U19 side, including a full appearance in the most recent Youth League campaign. Despite his outstanding performances and two French U19 championship titles, the young left-back saw his horizons blocked within the professional squad.

His move to Red Star, 15th in Ligue 2 last season, was motivated by a desire to gain playing time and launch his professional career in an ambitious but more accessible environment. PSG, for their part, have negotiated a percentage on resale, proof that they are keeping a close eye on the development of this promising “Titi”. This transfer illustrates a strong trend: the difficulty for youngsters from the Parisian center to make their mark in the pros, and the need to export their talent in order to reach a milestone, while offering PSG a form of return on investment in the event of a future boom.
