Carlos Soler, the 28-year-old midfielder who arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022 from Valencia with a contract until 2027, failed to impress on the pitch and was loaned to West Ham for the 2024-2025 season. He returned to Paris, with a solution to find for his future. It should be at Real Sociedad. Fabrizio Romano and Loic Tanzi announced this Wednesday evening that the player will indeed join the Spanish club. The medical will take place on Thursday. It will be a loan, with a non-binding purchase option. However, Real Sociedad still wants to sign Soler permanently in the coming months.
Fabrizio Romano:
“Carlos Soler will indeed join Real Sociedad. Tomorrow, he will undergo a medical and sign his contract. The formula: A loan with a non-binding purchase option!” Real Sociedad considers the player a key part of its future. There is therefore a strong chance that the Spanish club will sign him permanently in the coming months! Fabrizio Romano via DAZN »
Loïc Tanzi:
“Soler will ultimately be loaned to Real Sociedad with an option to buy. The Spanish club is unsure of releasing the necessary funds for the transfer before the end of the transfer window, so they have opted to cover his Parisian salary in return.”
The move confirms Paris Saint-Germain’s desire to slim down its squad, while Real Sociedad seizes the opportunity to strengthen its midfield with an experienced player. Having arrived in Paris in 2022 from Valencia, Carlos Soler has never really managed to establish himself within the Parisian squad.
His versatility – capable of playing as a centre-back, attacking midfielder, or even on the wing – could, however, prove valuable in La Liga. The option to buy, even if it is not mandatory, reflects the confidence of the Spanish management: they already envision a lasting future with the Spanish international. This loan therefore resembles a full-scale test period, which could seal the player’s definitive departure in the coming months.
