For the fourth matchday of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to Spain to face Villarreal, securing a 0–6 victory. Following the match, Luis Enrique, the head coach of the capital club, spoke to PSG TV to discuss his players’ performance.
Luis Enrique: “I am very happy with the match I saw.”
“It was a sensational match. These are the kinds of games that can be traps; if you start poorly and concede a few goals, the whole dynamic can shift. Fortunately, we began the match brilliantly. We pressed exceptionally well, won the ball back effectively, and scored three goals. I am very happy with the match I saw. As is always the case with our supporters present, it felt just like playing at home.”
Luis Enrique: “We must stay focused.”
“We are performing better than in recent years—everyone knows how those previous campaigns ended, even after difficult starts. We should enjoy this result, look for ways to keep improving, and show everyone that we are truly a team capable of overcoming challenges. We must remain focused, as always.”
It was a fantastic, resounding victory for PSG as they returned to European competition this Tuesday. From the very first half, Luis Enrique’s men overwhelmed their opponents, netting four goals within the opening 17 minutes. Under these circumstances, it was hard to imagine Villarreal mounting a comeback. Mentally, it was a devastating blow for the Spanish side, who were left to endure wave after wave of Parisian attacks.
PSG continued to dictate the flow of the game, imposing an intensity that their opponents simply could not handle. Throughout October and now into November, the club from the capital has become formidable. Whether against Manchester City, FC Barcelona, or—most recently—Villarreal, the Rouge et Bleu have asserted their dominance, sending a clear message to the rest of European football—which surely fears the prospect of a third star for the two-time defending champions.
