Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique spoke to beIN SPORTS ahead of his press conference to discuss this Tuesday evening’s match against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica (kick-off at 9:00 PM, CET), part of the fourth matchday of the 2026-2027 Champions League league phase.
Luis Enrique: “You’ll see what kind of team they are.”
You have a perfect record in the Champions League, while Villarreal has only 3 points—how are you preparing for this match?
Past results offer no guarantee that you’ll win the next game. When the match begins, we need to demonstrate our level, our quality, and our ambition to go out and win. Villarreal is a good side; I know them well, I’m fully aware of the quality they possess, and they have a very good coach. They’ve been unlucky with the schedule, having faced top-tier opponents in their first four matches—which makes winning those games difficult. But you’ll see what kind of team they are.
Luis Enrique: “We want to overcome this by staying positive; we want to overcome it as a team.”
How are you managing the absences in your squad?
The same way we always do. We look to leverage the quality of the players who make up the team. Injuries are a normal part of any season; they don’t change anything. We want to overcome this by staying positive; we want to overcome it as a team.
How do you hope to further cement your place in the club’s history?
That has been an objective from the very beginning of our time here in Paris. Beyond that, we try to enjoy the journey, striving to be better every single day. That’s the reality for anyone dedicated to competing at the highest level.
