Eden Hazard, 34, former attacking midfielder or winger for Belgium, spoke on the Twitch show “Zack en roue libre” about his career and his close brush with Paris Saint-Germain. In this interview, the former Belgian international reveals why he chose to turn his back on the capital club during his last season at Lille, summarizing a decision marked by attachment.
Hazard: “PSG tried”
“PSG tried, I had always remained on good terms with Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi). During my last year at Lille, I went to see a PSG game, I liked Paris… but I just didn’t want to go back to Ligue 1. I had made my mark at Lille, and even for the Lille fans, I couldn’t see myself playing against Lille, scoring against them… it just didn’t feel right.”
We all know the transfer stories, and we remember the “Eden Hazard hype” when he was at Lille. There’s no doubt that PSG tried their luck, but it should be noted that the player had then gone abroad, also to conquer new territory. It worked out well for him, he had an exceptional career in the Premier League. It’s still interesting to see that the player could have come to Paris by a hair’s breadth.
