Paris Saint-Germain were potentially playing for their future in the Champions League when they hosted Manchester City on Wednesday evening. The Parisians took control of the game from the outset, pressing relentlessly. Although the Citizens took a two-goal lead, it was against the run of play. And it was a PSG in revolt that turned the game around, winning 4-2 (video summary PSG/Manchester City). João Neves, clearly the man of the match, spoke to Canal+ Sport about this oh-so-important victory!
Neves: “When we lost 2-0 we managed to come back”.
Can you tell us about that feeling?
We dominated in the first half, but in the second half we could have come back better. They took a bit of control of the game and even when we were 2-0 down we managed to come back, so I’m very happy for the team. That’s the most important thing.
What went through your mind to make you turn this match around?
We always had the same ideas, the same philosophy in this match, and that’s the secret. We stayed focused on the next ball, the next duel.
Happy to be man of the match but “even happier for the result”.
Tell us about your match: you were man of the match.
For me, individual trophies aren’t important. I’m very happy, that’s for sure. But I’m even happier for the result, that’s what makes me the happiest, and I can go to sleep tonight relaxed.
How important is this for the standings?
We know there’s still a game to go, and that’s the most important thing. In 3 days’ time, we’ve got a match in Ligue 1 and we’re concentrating on that.
