Luis Campos arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, replacing sporting director Leonardo, but with a special role as “soccer advisor”. His track record is a regular topic of debate, and rumours of a departure have resurfaced this summer, as well as that of a contract extension. Speaking to Canal +, Paris president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi took stock of the situation.
“Campos is very happy in Paris. I’m very happy with what he’s done since he’s been here. I want him to extend his contract. Since I’ve been president, I’ve never felt such osmosis between a sporting director and his coach.”
We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Portuguese extend his Parisian adventure after such a statement. Time proves that he’s starting to get results with his well-executed mercatos. Good players are arriving, while unwanted players in difficulty are leaving. PSG is now able to part with undesirable players and is not seeking to have an ultra-supplied squad. This is being done to make room for its youth academy, with 18-year-old Senny Mayulu making his mark this season.
Luis Enrique has been listening, and it seems that everyone is getting on quite well. Beware of euphoria, however: PSG is in a good phase, and when that’s the case, you have to be careful, because things can go very quickly, in one direction or another.
