Paris Saint-Germain claimed a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa (video highlights PSG/Aston Villa) this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 quarter-finals (return on April 15). This after going behind in the 34th minute. A staggering situation that is becoming an historic habit for Paris.

7 – Paris SG won a 7th match after taking the lead this season (including 6 of their 7 such matches in 2025), equalling their highest total of wins after taking the 1st goal in a season in their history (7 also in 1985/86 and 2003/04). Comebacks.

Of course, PSG would prefer not to be behind, but simply to open the scoring and carry on from there. But that’s the way soccer is, and a lot can happen and a lot can go wrong. The strength of the Parisians is that they have accepted this and are able to keep calm with their playing philosophy, whatever happens.

We no longer see the signs of irritation we’ve seen in recent years, or players who step out of line with the collective game plan. This team knows what it has to do and knows what it can do. Their confidence is further bolstered by their ability to turn situations around. And that, of course, makes a big difference over the course of the season.

It’s also an advantage over opponents, who can’t feel particularly reassured or confident when they open the scoring. Some would say that this looks like a “champion’s course”. It can be. Be careful, though: you don’t want to come up short one too many times in a decisive match.
