Paris Saint-Germain and Nice faced off this Friday at the Parc des Princes as part of the 31st day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The match ended in a 1-3 victory for Nice (video highlights PSG/Nice). After the match, Nice coach Franck Haise spoke to DAZN.
Haise “We also wanted to have a diamond.”
What motivates a coach to pull off another upset against a team that was invincible?
It’s obviously a difficult victory, but it was a must. It just makes the victory that much sweeter.
How did you prepare for this match?
I wanted us to defend a little differently. I wanted more of a 5-3-2 formation, and that’s what we’d prepared for. We also wanted to have a diamond in the heart of the game, but it took us a little while to see that. The aim was to have some breaks in between, because it’s very difficult against PSG. It came a little late in the game, but like the first goal, we managed to do it. From time to time, we managed to loosen our grip.
Haise “We had a keeper in a state of grace.”
Were the set-pieces targeted?
We know that against Paris you’re not going to get much of the ball. I didn’t have the right profiles to start the match with, so I didn’t have the ability to make great transitions. We also had a few things to do with our set-piece attacks. Of course, they had to be quick. Of course, we targeted set-pieces. We certainly worked hard.
Are you targeting the moments when the Parisians get a little too carried away?
Of course, Gaëtan’s call meant there was no opening for a goal. We’ve had a keeper in a state of grace, and if he’s not, Paris scores several goals. You have to be aware of that too, but we had all the lights on green and we believed in it. Obviously, you need a bit of success.
Haise “I just wish PSG to win this Champions League.”
Are you going to inspire Arteta?
I don’t think he needs to be inspired. He plays differently. I’ll be watching the Arsenal game closely, and I just want PSG to win the Champions League.
